I joined Fighting Fit in October 2004. I started learning martial arts about 10 years ago after a long period of
illness. My main motivation at the time was simply to become fit and healthy and to regain control of my
body and mind. It worked! Within 4 years of joining the school, I became a black belt and a UK champion.
I really enjoy the social side of Fighting Fit. All the students in the school help each other and motivate each
other so becoming an instructor came gradually and naturally. There is a constant exchange of knowledge
and advice. Teaching helps me understand the techniques better and improve my own techniques. Plus, it is
extremely rewarding to see your students' techniques improve and I always feel proud when I see them
grading.
Where to start... The obvious benefits are fitness and self-confidence but martial arts also come with a philosophy, they teach you respect, of others and of yourself, discipline and humility.
Our school motto sums it up quite well: "Be the best you can be". Above all, I would like students to enjoy themselves because you cannot progress if you do not enjoy what you are doing.
When I was looking for a martial arts school, I had three requirements: an interesting martial art, instructor(s) that I can respect and a friendly atmosphere. Fighting Fit teaches a wide range of martial arts and offers a complete training ranging from kickboxing, kung fu and aikido to self defence and weapons. There is always something new and different to learn.
The classes are taught by a number of highly qualified instructors, all personally trained by Chief Instructor Mr Lloyd. This means that all students get the same quality of training but because the instructors have different backgrounds, specialties and styles and each student can find the advice that is best suited for his or her training.
Fighting Fit has hundreds of students over a number of branches but there is a distinct team spirit among all these people coming together through their love of martial arts.
Learn more!! The great thing about martial arts is that there is always something new to learn.
