Former fashion model Rose Latchman has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. Rose was originally trained in India at the Patanjali Yoga Ashram in Classical and Hatha Yoga and later studied under the guidance of Vimla Lalvani, the celebrity yoga guru. However, in recent years, due to the demands of the West, a number of different forms of yoga have been developed and practiced around the world. Rose has studied many forms of yoga, including Ashtanga , Vinyasa, Iyengar, Sivananda, Restorative and remedial yoga and Pilates. Incorporating all the various yoga systems, she has developed her own unique style, which has kept her in popular demand.
Rose has an in depth knowledge of the workings of the human psyche and uses this knowledge to enhance both the physical and mental well being of her students. She has taught many students from all walks of life, from school children, College students and students with special needs, to housewives, office workers, CEO’s and celebrities.
Rose says “I have always been interested in the workings of the human mind and body and this led me to the path of yoga and meditation. I was fascinated with this form of exercise and its philosophy and the physical and mental benefits that I gained from my own practice, it inspired me to become a teacher. As my modelling career was coming to an end, I was working with a London Fashion House as their resident model and this involved going to India 4 times a year and I took the opportunity to train as a teacher.”
“Starting yoga can be intimidating at first, especially for men as they have the preconceived idea that yoga is only for women; however, stress does not differentiate between genders. In a society in which we experience elongated levels of stress and strains, it is important to unwind and shut yourself off from the external forces of everyday life and find inner peace and contentment. Regardless of what the day has thrown at me, as part of my daily routine, I always find time to escape and meditate for at least an hour (longer if time permitting). Taking this time out at the end of each day, allows me to empty my mind and combat the effects of stress which helps me to deal with each situation more proactively. Yoga and meditation, combined with correct breathing techniques, cultivates presence of mind, increased concentration and serenity and work towards mastering your body and mind. In recent years, the benefits of practicing yoga and meditation on a regular basis have been reported widely in the media as the best way to invest in your long term health and well-being.
“Many great yoga teachers will remind you that perfection is not the point. Whichever style of yoga you choose to practice; all the postures remain the same and have done so throughout the centuries, except perhaps in the way that they are taught by individual teachers. Listen to the wisdom of your body and you will tune into a place beyond judgment and enjoy a life filled with peace and contentment.”
Rose has been an integral part of the Fighting Fit team and Personal Assistant to Chief Instructor and owner Mr. Tony Lloyd for 15 years, and assists him in the running of the school on a daily basis and she is also the Club’s administrator.
Mr. Lloyd says, “I first met Rose when she contacted me because she wanted to learn kung-fu and self defense. She was teaching 14 group classes per week, some of which ended late in the evenings. She was also teaching private students visiting them in their home and was concerned about being able to defend herself if necessary. I found her to be quite a natural in the martial arts and learned quickly. I believe this was partly because of her background training in yoga and her mind set. Rose continues to train on a regular basis and is diligent in her work and practices, which enables her to deal and cope with any situation that may prop up. I would find it a struggle to replace her and her services in the company.”
