Steve Dyson

Instructor 1st Degree Black Belt

I had always played Ice and Roller hockey from a young age and had recently left the sport after I'd accheived all I could within the game (I had just finished playing for England with games against U.S.A and Canada abroad) and was feeling slightly lost with nothing to do when I met Mr Lloyd in 2005.

Straight away from the first class I knew this was what I wanted to dedicate my time to. Unlike hockey, I knew that no matter how much I trained and learnt there was still so much more to be done and there would never be a point where you've reached the end. I got so into it I was training with different schools almost every day of the week from then on. I come from a family of East end boxers back in Walthamstow and so did alot there, I had close friends who taught evening classes of Kung Fu and was also doing sessions with a Muay Thai school down in Hackney.

Around 3 years in me and a small group of close freinds traveled to Thailand to learn Kung Fu with some of the Shaolin Monks before spending time in the world famous Fairtex camp learning Muay Thai in Bankok. Alot of the techniques we learnt in our time there are quite often passed on in class now. 4 years to the day from me gaing my first belt (yellow), in September 2009, and after 3 hours of pain and an intence beating, Mr Lloyd awarded me with a 1st degree Black belt, which to this day is still the proudest thing I have ever acheived in my life.

After my Black belt grade I became a qualified instructor in 2010 as I strongly beleive that it is a gift to be able to to something that you truely love everyday and not to be sat in an office unhappy. It was also in 2010 that because of my martial arts background I was invited to join a display team using Fire Nunchuks (yes, that is nunchuks set on fire) and have so far had the most amazing time doing shows with them including being onstage with Pendulum and Chase n Status to name a couple. Again I think this is a perfect example of how martial arts can take you anywhere if you put the time and effort into it.

Fighting Fit has given me so much and this is what I hope every other student will find aswell. Everyone here wants to see each other progress and acheive their own personal goals and you truely feel like you are part of a real team.
